The Programs
Health Sciences Program Requirements
Physical Exams and Statement of Functional Abilities
- Students will be provided with a Functional Abilities form along with the Physical Exam form for the specific program for which they are requesting admission.
- Students will be required to undergo a physical exam/health verification before enrollment. Students will be responsible for the cost of the physical examination and required immunizations and/or testing.
The health care provider must review the functional abilities form and indicate on the Physical Exam form whether the student has any mental or physical problems or limitations that might affect class attendance (mandatory) or participation in clinical activities.
Immunizations
- All students will be required to obtain immunizations and/or titers within a specified period before starting the first semester of clinical courses.
Please review the immunization guidelines carefully.
- There are specific dates and times in which immunizations must be obtained.
- Information will be provided at the time of admission.
- All students attending clinical experiences or externships at healthcare facilities between November 1 and March 30 must obtain an influenza vaccine by October 31 of each year. Any student who does not obtain the vaccine will be required to follow the same policies that employees of the healthcare facility must follow when not receiving the vaccine.
Health Guidelines
- Students will be required to meet all health guidelines of affiliated clinical agencies.
- Personal health insurance may be required by some agencies. Students are highly encouraged to carry personal health insurance and are responsible for all costs incurred due to injury or illness while enrolled. CCBC and/or the clinical facility will NOT be responsible for any medical expenses incurred while a student is in the program.
Background Checks and Drug Screening
- Criminal background checks (both State and FBI), child abuse clearances, and drug screenings are requirements of affiliated clinical sites utilized for training in the Health Sciences programs. Based on the results of these checks, an affiliated clinical site may determine to not allow your presence at their facility. This would result in your inability to complete the requirements of the program. Students may be responsible for the costs of the clearances (3 in total) and pre-entrance drug screening. Additionally, a criminal background may preclude licensure or employment. More information is available from the Dean.
- All programs will receive clearance information from the School of Health Sciences. The information will be submitted to program facilitators before the beginning of the first clinical semester.
Clearance Requirements
- All clearances must be obtained within 4 months of entering any Health Sciences program. Information will be provided by the facilitator of the program.
Substance Abuse Screening
- School of Health Sciences students will be required to complete substance abuse screening before entering the program. Additionally, students may be subject to random screenings at the request of the Dean and/or additional screenings requested by clinical facilities. Failure to participate in substance abuse screenings will result in immediate withdrawal from the program.
- In cases where alcohol and drug violations occur, disciplinary action, as well as the decision whether to test for alcohol or drugs, will be processed through the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.
CPR
All students entering a Health Sciences program are required to have a current CPR card on file. CPR certification must be the American Heart Association for Health Care Providers only.
Transportation
Students are responsible for maintaining reliable transportation to arrive at class and clinical on time and at various locations throughout the region.
