The Program

Are you ready to start the exciting journey of becoming an aviation professional? Let your future take flight by joining the CCBC Aviation Academy. Through the Academy, high school students in grades 11 and 12 at participating school districts have the opportunity to spend a portion of their high school day on a CCBC campus, preparing for professional pilot, air traffic control, or aerospace management careers. Students who devote 2 years to this program have the opportunity to graduate from high school with up to 28 college credits toward their associate degree.

We are currently offering the Aviation Academy courses in a flexible model. Students can choose to either attend in-person at specified locations or attend class online live each day from school or home. Our in-person sites are as follows:

Aviation Sciences Center– 125 Cessna Drive, Beaver Falls, PA 15010

&

CCBC Washington Site– 625 East McMurray Road, McMurray, PA 15317

Aviation Academy Student Technology Requirements

Due to FAA requirements, all online CCBC aviation students are required to use ‘Respondus’
software throughout the coursework. Because of this, certain technical hardware and
software limitations will need to be followed to ensure that Respondus is capable of
operating on a device.

  1. Required Web Browser:
    Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome
    ***(Respondus will NOT function correctly with Edge, Safari, and many other third-party web
    browsers)
  2. Operating Systems:
    Windows: 11 and 10*
    * Windows 10/11 “S mode” is not a compatible operating system, nor can LockDown
    Browser be obtained via the Windows App Store. At present, support for Windows 10/11 “S
    Mode” isn’t on the roadmap for LockDown Browser.
    * Windows 10/11 “SE” is currently not a compatible operating system for LockDown
    Browser.
    Mac: macOS 10.13 to 13.0+
    ***(Respondus will not function correctly using a Chromebook, iPad, or mobile device)
  3. Memory
    Windows: 2 GB RAM (A minimum of 4 GB of available RAM is necessary when using
    LockDown Browser to take an exam that also uses a webcam.)
    Mac: 2 GB RAM (A minimum of 4 GB of available RAM is necessary when using LockDown
    Browser to take an exam that also uses a webcam.)
  4. Hard Disk Space
    Windows: 200 MB of free hard disk space
    Mac: 200 MB of free hard disk space
    -If your current PC/Mac does not meet the required specs, then our campus Barnes and
    Noble bookstore recommends the following laptop (Please note that orders may take
    several weeks to process):

Students in the Aviation Academy will:

  • Prepare for dynamic, lifelong careers in the aviation field
  • Become more skilled in aviation, science, technology, engineering, and math
  • Develop and demonstrate responsibility and accountability
  • Thrive in an environment of higher behavioral expectations
  • Acquire skills for effective leadership and lifelong learning

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Students may enroll during junior or senior year
  • Minimum 2.5 High School GPA
  • Successfully completed High School Algebra I
  • Recommendation from the principal or school counselor
  • Exhibit good attendance and conduct
