Monaca, PA — The Community College of Beaver County (CCBC), in partnership with Mascaro Construction Company, has been named a recipient of the prestigious 2025 Pathfinder Award by the Green Building Alliance. The award, presented at the organization’s annual gala on May 8 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, recognizes outstanding leadership in advancing sustainable building practices and workforce development across the region.

The honor highlights the pioneering work of the Mascaro Construction Institute at CCBC, which is playing a critical role in preparing the next generation of green builders, managers, and designers. From career and technology centers to associate degree programs, the Institute is equipping students and incumbent workers with the skills needed to meet the demands of high-performance building.

“High-performance buildings require a workforce trained in sustainability and innovation,” said Christopher Leininger, Ph.D., director and lead faculty for the Mascaro Construction Technology and Management program at CCBC. “We are embedding sustainability into every layer of our curriculum, and it’s a privilege to help shape a future-ready construction workforce.”

Dr. Leininger, whose expertise in Building Performance and Diagnostics informs the Institute’s forward-thinking approach, was celebrated for his dedication to sustainability education. Also honored was John C. Mascaro, Jr., President and CEO of Mascaro Construction Company, for his visionary leadership and commitment to excellence in the construction industry. Mascaro’s foundational support led to the creation of the Institute, reinforcing a shared mission to build both structures and careers rooted in sustainable principles.

“Together, Chris and John are inspiring and empowering the builders of tomorrow,” said a Green Building Alliance spokesperson. “Their collaboration demonstrates how education and industry can come together to shape a greener, more resilient future for our communities.”
