Amelia Callaghan to Receive a $1,500 Scholarship

Monaca, PA – Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) proudly announces Amelia Callaghan as a 2024 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar. Amelia was one of just 50 students nationally to receive $1,500 as part of her selection as a Gold Scholar, the top tier of the program.

A second-year education major and honors student, Amelia serves as secretary of Phi Theta Kappa, secretary of the Student Government Association, and president of the Writing and Artistry Club.

“I appreciate the donors for the Coca-Cola Scholarship, and I am sincerely honored to have been selected as an Academic Team Gold Scholar. It means a great deal to me as I continue my education as an Education major at Slippery Rock University,” said Ms. Callaghan. “This scholarship will allow me to pursue my future goals in the field of Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Academia while learning to speak and study the Spanish language.”

Through its Coca-Cola Academic Team program, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation recognizes 50 Gold, 50 Silver, and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion. Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service.

“We were so pleased to learn that Amelia was chosen for the Coca-Cola Gold Scholarship. Amelia is not only a dedicated student but extremely active on campus,” said Brittney Golden, CCBC Dean of Students. “She always steps in to volunteer and help wherever she can. We will miss her smiling face on campus but are excited to watch her transfer to Slippery Rock, continue her college journey, and begin her teaching career

“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Hopkins, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s leaders of the global community.”

Coca-Cola Academic Team members will be recognized in both local and statewide ceremonies and will also be recognized internationally during Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention, PTK Catalyst.
