Golden Dome
Community College of Beaver County’s Golden Dome is one of Beaver County’s most recognizable structures.
On April 22, 1974, the College’s Building & Construction Committee selected “Option #2” for the physical education facility. It would be 38,000 square feet, seat 3,000 people, and have a geodesic roof.
On October 26, 1974, groundbreaking ceremonies are held for the Physical Education/Recreation Complex, and finally on February 26, 1976, the Physical Education/Recreation Complex, now better known as the “Dome”, was dedicated.
Built in 1975, by R. Buckminster Fuller, the CCBC Dome is one of only eight remaining geodesic structures in the United States. It is a 38,000-square-foot, 2,500-capacity multi-purpose arena. Over the years, popular events have included everything from job fairs and trainings to county-wide summits, national athletic competitions, and memorable moments like graduations and presidential visits.
It is an iconic structure in Beaver County, and on February 26, 2026, CCBC’s Golden Dome celebrated its 50th Diamond anniversary.
