Paying for College with Grants
Grant programs provide financial aid that does not need to be repaid for students with demonstrated financial need. To apply for grant programs, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please note: To receive the aid, you cannot be in default on a federal student loan and/or owe a repayment on a federal grant.

Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is a gift aid program that is based on financial need. To qualify for the Pell Grant, you must:
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate student.
- Make satisfactory academic progress
- Demonstrate financial need (calculated by the Federal Government).
- The maximum number of semesters a student can receive a pell grant is 12.
- The award amount is based on enrollment status. Students who are not full-time will have their award adjusted based on the number of credits they are enrolled in. (Ex: A student who is taking nine credits is considered 3/4 time and will receive approximately 3/4 of the scheduled award.) Students can receive a portion of the pell grant for as little as one credit.
Federal SEOG Grant
Federal SEOG Grants are available to students with exceptional needs. Any student wishing to be considered for this grant must:
- Enroll as an undergraduate student.
- Demonstrate exceptional needs.
- Make satisfactory academic progress.
PA State Grant
The PA State Grant program is a gift aid program based on financial needs determined by the state of PA, which will send you an estimated award notice. However, your award is contingent upon meeting the criteria listed below. To qualify for the PA State Grant, you must:
- Be a Pennsylvania resident.
- Submit a FAFSA by May 1.
- Enroll in an Associate Degree program.
- Enroll as an undergraduate student.
- Enroll at least half-time (6 or more credits).
- Make satisfactory academic progress according to PHEAA’s progress policy guidelines.
- Complete the PA State Grant Status Notice (If required).
PA State Grant Special Programs
Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver Program
The Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver Program provides a waiver for tuition and mandatory fees charged by most postsecondary institutions located in the Commonwealth for students who are or were in foster care. It applies only to charges remaining after all other gift aid has been applied.
Who is Eligible?
To be considered you must:
- Be a Pennsylvania resident
- Be under the age of 26
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- Be eligible for services under Pennsylvania’s John H Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood
- Be identified as a youth in foster care or a youth discharged or adopted from foster care at the age of 16
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate, at least half time in an approved post-secondary institution
- Demonstrate financial need for the PA Chafee Education and Training Grant
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Not be in default on a federal student loan
- File a 2025-2026 FAFSA

How do I apply?
- Complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA Application.
- Complete and mail the Chafee ETG Application will be available as of Spring 2026.

This website is for completing the application for grants, making corrections to your Student Aid Reports, or changing schools ( CCBC school code is 006807). You must first create an account. Dependent students will need one for the student and one for at least one parent.
